April 1, 2010. The Barnstable County Department of Human Services is pleased to announce the launch of its new website. The site is a clearinghouse of local, state and federal health and human information. According to Beth Albert, Director of the Department, “ With the assistance of the County IT Department and a web designer, we have created a website that is user friendly, resource rich, and accessible for people with disabilities.” The Department tested the site with several people with disabilities and web accessibility experts to ensure accessibility standards were incorporated into the design of the site. While there are still a few glitches, the Department’s commitment to accessiblity sets the standard for all sites hosted by the County.
In addition to acting as a clearinghouse for data and resources, the site also direct visitors to MASS 2-1-1 and hosts information on several community partners, such as the Human Rights Commission, the Health and Human Services Advisory County, the Community Health Network Alliance ( CHNA), and the regional Suicide Prevention Coalition.
