This special section of the Barnstable County Department of Human Services website leads you to Cape Cod food and nutrition-related programs and services, through the Cape Cod “Healthy and Happy Eating For All” Resource Directory.
The directory contains descriptions and contact information for hundreds of Cape Cod resources. Directory entries are arranged by topic and by geographic region, making finding information on needed resources quick and easy.
This new directory is designed for use by the public, and by health and human service professionals, clergy, and anyone assisting persons in need of healthy-eating or nutritional resources or social “happy-eating” activities.
The Directory offers nine distinct “pathways” to Healthy and Happy Eating for All:
- Food For You and Your Family lists dozens of food pantries throughout the entire Cape, in neighborhood places of worship, local agencies of the “Cape Cod Hunger Network,” as well as resources for home delivered meals, through local Councils on Aging, and the Greater Boston Food Bank’s “Brown Bag Program.”
- Holiday Specials lists sources of Holiday-Related Foods including Christmas, Passover, and Thanksgiving Baskets and Holiday Meals
- Fresh, Locally Grown Food connects you to the Southeastern Massachusetts Agriculture Partnership (SEMAP) website, which lists phone and e-mail information for local farms, and provides schedules of Farmer’s Markets, across the region from Buzzards Bay to Provincetown.
- Eating Together lists resources across the Cape, from pot-luck dinners to public health nursing programs, as well as many churches and Senior Centers that provide regular opportunities to share a meal with friends and neighbors, including a warm welcome for people with disabilities.
- “How To’’s” For Healthy Eating includes nutrition education programs for all ages (newborn to seniors), as well as many specifics for management of specific issues such as weight-loss or diabetes.
- $$ For Food will help you find Food Stamps, Food Vouchers, and special resources for women, infants, and children (WIC) and Native Americans.
- “To Market, To Market” provides information on transportation options to sites where food is available.
- Help Quick! provides hot-line phone numbers where you can get information on food and food-centered activities, including Mass211.
- Where To Donate Healthy Food directs you where to find healthy options ansd make healthy donations at local food pantries.
