The Barnstable County Human Rights Commission is seeking candidates to fill three vacancies on the Commission for three-year terms and one vacancy to complete a partial term of two years, beginning January 2015. The nine member volunteer Human Rights Commission was created in 2005 by the County’s Assembly of Delegates to promote equal opportunity, prevent discrimination, investigate and mediate complaints and provide human rights information. Responsibilities include attending meetings, responding to complaints from County residents, educating the public about human rights and the work of the HRC, and designing and implementing the annual Human Rights Academy for high school and middle school students. Commissioners also work actively to carry out the Commission’s Strategic Plan. Please visit the Human Rights Commission page for more information about the HRC.

The Barnstable County Health and Human Services Advisory Council reviews applications for this volunteer position and makes recommendations to the Barnstable County Commissioners. The County Commissioners appoint Commissioners to the Human Rights Commission.
