Cape and Islands State Delegation Discuss Homelessness

The Cape and Islands Regional Network on Homelessness hosted the Cape and Islands Legislative Delegation at the March 28, 2016 Policy Board Meeting.   Regional Network Policy Board members were joined by Representative Sarah Peake (4th Barnstable District), Representative Tim Whelan (1st Barnstable District), Representative Brian Mannal (2nd Barnstable District), Seth Rolbein, Senior Advisor to Senator Dan Wolf, Kathy Palmer liaison to Representative David Vieira (3rd Barnstable District), and Lorre Jo Joyce liaison to Representative Timothy Madden (Barnstable, Nantucket, and Dukes District).

The discussion focused on several specific budget and policy priorities of the Cape and Islands Regional Network including support for expansion of the housing court, regional strategies to address the shortage of rental housing, the Rural Housing Commission, funding for the Transitional Living Center and Martha Vineyard’s Housing Outreach position.  The Policy Board supports the budget priorities of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless which can be found at http://www.mahomeless.org/images/FY17_Budget_Priorities_2-26-16.pdf.

The Regional Network Policy Board is a broad public- private partnership of agencies, governmental bodies, civic, and other community stakeholders committed to identifying and implementing creative solutions to preventing and ending homelessness on Cape Cod and the Islands.
