“One Meal A Day” Map Updated

Over 10% of Barnstable County residents live below the poverty line (American Community Survey 2013), yet there are many more residents who are considered food insecure. Resource mapping helps tell the story of hunger in Barnstable County. Feeding America is a national nonprofit that studies food insecurity from a geographic perspective and displays data through the Map the Meal Gap online tool. Using this data, the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) strives to provide one meal per day for each food insecure individual in each city and town in Eastern Massachusetts.  GBFB is the primary supplier for food pantries on Cape Cod. To view progress toward GBFB’s goal for each county subdivision in Eastern Massachusetts, visit GBFB’s One Meal a Day Map.

The Cape Cod Hunger Network is a coalition of Cape food pantries and state and local agencies that help coordinate and increase access to food security programs and is represented on the Barnstable County Health and Human Services Advisory Council.
