“Let’s Make Everyone Count” – January 24, 2017
The Cape and Islands Continuum of Care (CoC) Program’s Annual Point-in-Time (PIT) count is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Conducted by the Cape and Islands Regional Network on Homelessness, the annual event brings volunteers together to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in emergency shelters, transitional housing, on the street, in cars, abandoned buildings, and in other places not meant for human habitation. Counts are conducted annually in every community and are required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The PIT does not count households living in motels nor those that are doubled-up and living with family and friends.

The Continuum of Care (CoC) Grant Program is a homeless assistance program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. HUDâs 2016 Policy Priorities are to: create a systematic response to homelessness; strategically allocate resources; end chronic, youth, veteran, and family homelessness with a Housing First Approach. The Cape and Islands CoC, which is governed by the Cape and Islands Regional Network on Homelessness, supports 12 projects providing permanent supportive housing to 145 households.
