Results of the 2020 Point in Time Homeless Count

The Cape and Islands Regional Network on Homelessness has announced results of the 2020 Annual Point in Time (PIT) Count. The PIT count occurs annually across the country during the last week of January and provides a “snapshot” of the number of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals in the region. While the region experienced an overall 9% decrease in total sheltered and unsheltered individuals and families from 2019 to 2020 (from 371 to 336), the number of unsheltered individuals and families across the three counties increased from 38 to 50. Barnstable County experienced a decrease in unsheltered homeless persons (from 36 to 34), while Dukes and Nantucket Counties experienced increases of 12 (from 2 to 14) and 2 (from 0 to 2) respectively.
